Due to Lecy Goranson’s ambivalence toward continuing with the show, in seasons 6 and 8 the role of Becky was recast with Sarah Chalke. Chalke’s riff on Becky is of a more mature young woman, who becomes somewhat disillusioned with Mark, as their rocky relationship brings up thoughts of leaving him and going to college. During Chalke’s time on the show, Becky works at an obnoxious bar called Bunz and becomes closer with Darlene’s boyfriend and Mark’s younger brother, David, with their friendship almost turning romantic, until they step back.
