The character of Johnny Castle, the pivotal male lead role that pretty much holds the entire movie together, could have almost gone to two other men – Val Kilmer and Billy Zane. While we respect these actors tremendously and think they are amazing, they couldn’t have been our Johnny!
While Kilmer turned down the role, Zane and Grey had no on-set chemistry whatsoever so producers continued searching until they finally found Patrick Swayze – and the rest, as they say, was history.
