Although many people on the team were disappointed to learn that they hadn’t found evidence of Ramses II in the statue, the leaders of the Heliopolis project were over the moon. In their eyes, this was a much more rare and exciting find than one of a pharaoh they already knew a huge amount about.
By finding this statue of Psamtik I and piecing together the pieces to form a 3D image, they were able to get one of the first real visuals of a pharaoh who had previously slipped under the radar.
