For several minutes, onlookers and staff at the safari watched on. Park rangers are careful to not intervene unless absolutely necessary, in an attempt to keep the animals as free and natural as physically possible.
While the aim of the reserve is to keep the animals as they would be naturally, rangers still have a duty of care, and the last thing they want is to lose one of the animals. They decided that they would, therefore, give the mother some time to respond, and then step in if needed.
