These Japanese waves are hugely popular for those choosing their next tattoo because they’re so much more detailed and unique than the kind of waves you’d take from a photograph. At least, they were to start with. In the space of four years, this tattoo has been exposed to sunlight and suffered the consequences. The color has faded to an unnatural blue that doesn’t look as appealing for a dip, the outline has diminished, and the boats have been lost at sea. The idea is still there, but it’s lost its shine.

Apparently, this woman loves the phrase so much she wanted to get it tattooed on her lower lip. Although it was legible when it was first inked, the location of this quote did nothing for its durability. Six months later and it was just a few black spots on her lip.
