Mia was born with a cleft palate and lip. A cleft palate is a condition where a baby’s mouth or lip does not property form in utero. As a result the skull is not properly joined with the top of one’ mouth (palate). It is not a life threatening issue and can be fixed with surgery depending on how severe the case is. It can also lead to speech problems as a child develops.
