After his continuing success in 1995 with the highly-grossing “Batman Forever” and and sequel to the Ace Ventura movie “When Nature Calls”, Carrey was casted as the titular character in the 1996 movie “Cable Guy”.
For that movie, Carrey had set a record in Hollywood for receiving a payment of $20 million U.S dollars, which was considered the highest salary for a comic actor at that time. However, this dark comedy was considered a studio flop, grossing less than $100 Million dollars and receiving negative reviews from critics.
