Many speculated Burt was about to go bankrupt once more and wanted to be the first ones to report the story as soon as it broke. However, Burt always denied that was ever the case. According to the star, going bankrupt in 1996 was the first and last time he would do so. The auction was merely a way to clear out his old things.
