The reason for the success of Rogers’ second album was down to its second single, a country song called ‘Lucille’. The song tells the story of a man who meets a woman in a bar, and witnesses her dissatisfaction with the life she leads.
‘Lucille’ was a huge hit, reaching number 1 on the country charts and breaking into the top five of the Billboard Hot 100. It also hit the top ten in twelve other countries, and brought Kenny Rogers’ name to a worldwide audience.
