The Pacific Island nation of Tuvalu is combating a fluctuation in the rise of sea levels. The lowest point of their island is only half a meter above sea level, but the highest point of their land is 5 meters above sea level. The prime minister of Tuvalu made a public statement in 2003; “We live in constant fear of the adverse impacts of climate change. For a coral atoll nation, sea level rise and more severe weather events loom as a growing threat to our entire population. The threat is real and serious, and is of no difference to a slow and insidious form of terrorism against us.” The island expected to completely vanish in 30 years.
