In 2011, Catherine announced that she was diagnosed with bipolar II disorder. The trigger for the onset of the disorder was that of her husband’s cancer diagnosis, stress and depression. Catherine decided to go public with her mental health issues due to the fact that she wanted to put it in the forefront of the public’s sight. She checked herself into a mental hospital twice, in 2011 and in 2013, for treatment.
