This guy left a woman he went on just one date with a list of not-so-helpful tips

First dates are nerve-wracking for most people. There’s the sense of excitement but also the gut-wrenching worry that the person you’re going to meet just won’t like you. Then there is the thought that you will be sitting with this complete stranger and have nothing to say. The thought of an awkward silence that feels like a lifetime is enough to put plenty of people off going on dates to begin with.

Those who plucked up the courage to go out with someone for the first time mostly realized it wasn’t all that bad. Sure things were a little awkward, but once you got over the nerves, you had a great time. One woman was not so fortunate, and after the date from hell, she later received some tips on how things could have gone better from the guy she met.

This is the story of one woman’s date with a stranger who, after a failed date, decided to share his horrid tips on how she could have done things differently. Strap yourself in for a wild ride!

First date nerves

If you’ve ever been on a first date, you’ll know it can be scary. Kimberley Latham-Hawkesford from the UK went on a date with a guy she matched with on the dating app Tinder. They had been speaking via text for about a week.

First date nerves

Finally, they both decided they liked each other enough to met face to face. It soon became clear they were not compatible, and the guy left Kimberley with some ‘helpful’ advice.

Meeting for coffee

Things seemed to be going pretty well in the early stages of their brief relationship. Kimberley and the guy had been talking back and forth for a week, and their connection meant that after just seven days they cleared their schedules to meet. For all they knew, they could be meeting their future life partner, so the date had the potential to be a really big deal.

Meeting for coffee

Their first plan was to go for coffee first and see how things went, and it meant there wasn’t a huge commitment if they didn’t like each other. After coffee, they decided they liked each other enough to go for dinner and found a restaurant, but soon things began to turn sour.

Where it all goes wrong

As they began to talk over dinner, it became clear to Kimberley that this was not the guy she was meant to spend the rest of her life with. He asked her if she would ever have plastic surgery. Then the guy told Kimberley that he knew some great shops that would be good for her to buy clothes in, before showing off how much money he had in his bank account.

Where it all goes wrong

This guy was hardly a charmer, and we’re surprised Kimberley didn’t turn and run as soon as he started showing off. Despite knowing how much he had in his bank account, Kimberley offered to pay for dinner – anything to get out of there quicker.

An untimely reminder

The date was not a success, and the pair went their separate ways afterward. Then three months later Kimberley received a text message from the guy offering her some tips on why he thought the date went badly. It was all Kimberley’s fault according to him. He began his message by addressing the fact that they hadn’t spoken in a while since their date, but he was going to offer her some tips.

An untimely reminder

If she followed his suggestions, she might be lucky enough to win another date with him. He had 15 tips for Kimberley, and he seemed to think that she would be willing to follow his advice because their first date obviously went so well.

Here’s what he said

The guy started by commenting on Kimberley’s weight, before suggesting that her skin was too pale. He then decided she needed some fashion tips as what she was wearing seemingly wasn’t doing anything for him. The guy actually said he’d be embarrassed to be seen with her wearing the clothes she showed up to their date in.

His charm offensive wasn’t over yet, and he had issues with her hair, makeup, and lips. Then he went on to insult Kimberley’s character, adding that she should stop talking about her past and learn to be more confident, like it’s that easy. He then told her she offended him when she offered to pay for dinner, especially after showing her his bank balance.

Left with a choice

The guy who sent Kimberley the text message signed it off by giving her a choice. If she decided to follow his advice he might just give her another date in a month or so. We can’t help but think that Kimberley told this guy where to go.

Left with a choice

And then she carried on living her life. He thought his words would actually make Kimberley change herself just to win another date with this gem of a guy. Dating can be hard, but with this guy’s standards, it must be impossible.

Not laughing enough

One other thing that the guy told Kimberley was how offended he was that she didn’t laugh at any of his jokes. Perhaps his jokes weren’t funny enough for Kimberley to laugh at, but we reckon she probably had a good chuckle when reading his texts.

Not laughing enough

Kimberley was trying to move on after this car crash of a date, but it seems as though the guy wasn’t ready to say no. Maybe this is his version of treating her mean to keep her keen?

What Kimberley thought about it

This might seem as though the guy sent these messages as a joke, but Kimberley didn’t think that was the case. She was the one who went on a date with him, and she believes he is being super serious.

What Kimberley thought about it

After all, he did show her how much money is in his bank account on their first date, so maybe he’s a serious kind of guy. He might have to change his attitude if he wants to find his soulmate any time soon.

Not the only bad date

It won’t surprise you to learn that Kimberley’s terrible first date is not the only one in history to go south pretty quickly. There are a ton of first date horror stories and Twitter user ItsMissBrie opened up a discussion on the social media platform asking her followers about theirs.

Not the only bad date

The responses came flooding in, and they were just as cringe-worthy as Kimberley’s story. It seems like people were not afraid to share the misery they suffered due to their failed first dates.

Doing his best Michael Jackson impression

One woman replied to ItsMissBrie about a first date where a third wheel ruined it. The woman said the guy’s friend came along on the date and the buddy looked like Michael Jackson. That wasn’t all though…

Doing his best Michael Jackson impression

As they’re making their way to their car the MJ lookalike accidentally drops a glass bottle, and a shard ends up in her date’s eye. Now she has to take the guy to the ER and to lighten the mood the Michael Jackson looking guy got up and put on a concert.

Paying the tab

One woman replied to the social media post by admitting the guy she went on a date with ‘forgot’ his bank card. That meant she had to pick up the tab and while they were in the movie theater his girlfriend found her on Instagram.

Paying the tab

She told the woman that he was doing this kind of thing all the time, but they had been dating each other for three years. The woman might have picked up the tab for the guy, but it’s unlikely they ever saw a second date.

Buckle up

Another woman seemed to be having a great date with a guy until his ex-girlfriend found them. After she spotted her ex-boyfriend out with another girl, things got serious, and a high-speed pursuit began.

Buckle up

The woman told ItsMissBrie that she had to hold on for dear life as they desperately tried to escape the clutches of the guy’s former lover. That was no doubt a big red flag for this woman, and we can’t imagine there was another date without some assurance the ex wasn’t going to be there.

Timing is everything

The responses to ItsMissBrie’s post kept coming, and this next one is evidence why you should always read the room before doing something bold. The woman said she was in the middle of telling the guy that her mom was sick in the hospital.

Timing is everything

There must have been something exciting about hearing her mom was suffering as the guy decided to interrupt her mid-sentence to plant a big kiss on her lips. The woman said it was a terrible kiss, making the whole thing ten times worse.

Speaking of mothers

This next one is what bad first dates are all about. A guy picked up the woman, but he realized he’d forgotten something. As he drove them both back to his place the woman realized it was the guy’s mother that he had left behind and he was bringing her along on their date.

Speaking of mothers

It’s important to get on with your partner’s family, but maybe wait until after the first date before introducing your mom. Instead, the guy’s mom sat between them at dinner and then talked through the entire movie.

Bad first dates central

Kimberley’s experience in the UK was not an isolated incident as the readers of the British edition of Grazia magazine wrote in to share. One woman wrote about how she was late for her date and in a rush she crossed the road without looking.

Bad first dates central

Needless to say, she was hit by a car, and her leg was injured. She hobbled her way to the movie theater only for her date to ask her to pay as he had recently drained his bank account.

Break a leg

One woman wrote into the style magazine to relay the story of how she went on a date with a guy who had broken his leg. They had once gone on a date years before, and now he was filling her in on how badly his life had been going since then.

Break a leg

He had broken his leg and offered to show her, even highlighting that the injury had some pus oozing from it. Despite declining to see it, he insisted, and he got it out during their coffee date.

Is that the police?

What’s a first date without a little excitement? This one woman wrote in to say she was on a date in Manchester and the guy offered to walk her home after she described how rough her neighborhood was.

Is that the police?

It must have looked like she planned it because as she turned into her street, the police had sectioned off the area outside her house. She tried to get past but the officer told her it was a crime scene and someone had been stabbed. He never called her again.

Famous dates gone wrong

It isn’t just regular folk who get stuck on bad dates and some celebrities have confessed to having terrible dating experiences. Bear Grylls told the Huffington Post that he spent a day dragging a table and chairs up a mountain for a picnic date with a girl.

Famous dates gone wrong

Then the next day when it was time for the date she didn’t show up, meaning all his hard work was for nothing. Although the adventurer likes getting outside, we feel like this still must have hurt.

Broken heart, and wrist

Kelly Osbourne told People all about her very first date. She recalled that she was very much a prude and got very scared when the guy leaned in to kiss her. All Osbourne knew was that she needed to get out of there so she leaned back to avoid his lips.

Broken heart, and wrist

Unfortunately, that is when the disaster struck. She fell down some steps into the street, breaking her wrist in the process before running all the way home. That’s probably his worst ever date too Kelly.

Kimberley isn’t the only one

Sure Kimberley had a terrible dating experience, but that’s the same for most of us. At least she can get on with her life knowing she did nothing wrong and the guy’s list was totally unjustified. She did have one tip of her own to give the ‘insightful’ guy.

Kimberley isn’t the only one

Kimberley’s only tip for him is to learn how to respect women because his behavior was “disgusting.” Perhaps he should heed her advice and maybe the next time he’s out on a date it might go a little better than this one.
