Susan’s story was such a riveting one that a stage production of her life was decided upon. The production, called I Dreamed a Dream, took the star by surprise and awe. The musical charts Susan’s rise to fame thanks to the competition show and stars Elaine C. Smith as Susan. Susan is part of the musical as well. Boyle said, “When I first saw the rehearsals and watched my own life being portrayed on the stage, I thought: ‘What’s the buzz, man? Wait a minute, what’s going on here?’ It is very strange, to say the least, to see your life acted out by other people, but then my life has been full of surreal episodes since 2009.”
