Saguaro cacti, which resemble huge, green, and thorny candelabras, have come to signify the Wild West, as they have appeared in numerous films and capture the “never say die” essence of the American frontier. Their common name comes from a Native American language, while their scientific name is Carnegiea gigantea – after steel magnate Andrew Carnegie. And the “gigantea” part is pretty accurate – they can grow up to 40 feet tall!
