The clock was ticking, and the baby cub was still struggling to keep up. Eventually, he just gave up and plopped himself down in the middle of the road. The officer could tell that she wanted to help out the straggler, but also that she didn’t want to potentially sacrifice the rest of her cubs by leaving them to fend for themselves, while also in the middle of the road. So she left her baby alone.
