When Chamberlain made his discovery, he and Mead began to wonder how the gold even got in the tank in the first place. Mead assumed that, “They must have cut a hole in the fuel tank and rammed it full of gold bars.”
After the story went viral, reporters began reaching out to Mead and asking him if he was upset about giving up the gold. He was positive about the situation and said, “Even if I don’t get any of the gold back I will still have my beautiful tank.”
