Two police officers came to Mead’s farm to retrieve the gold bars and further investigate the situation. The investigators confirmed the suspicion that the bars were taken from Kuwait into Iraq in 1990. The conflict between the countries ended in 1991 and Iraq was ordered to return all of the stolen goods.
However, It was obvious that some looters had hidden the gold in the tank and it was never returned. This was the most likely scenario but it could also be the case that it was hidden by Saddam Hussein.
