It turns out that Marie’s mother Fontella had a very well thought out, specific way of selecting her numbers.
As she said during an interview, “I kept dreaming about your brother that we lost… His birthday, he was the third child, he’d have been 25 that year. Those were the numbers.” Marie felt horrible and wished that her mom could have won instead of her. Fontella says she’s happy that Marie won (and probably happy that she doesn’t have to deal with all of the fallout).
