Another older plane to make it onto the list is this German offering, which was designed and built back in 1917. While they tried to make something that was sturdy and large, the reality was quite different from the expectation. While expectations were high, both prototypes that were build had failed during the test fly and were performing very poorly. The main material that was used in the airframe was wood. It could carry up to six crew members, and after the war it was planned to make it spacious for 12 people, however the Versailles Treaty restrictions terminated that.
Both prototypes crashed during their first flights in 1919, with a structure that was far too weak to take to the skies. The Linke-Hofmann R.II was quickly discontinued and used as a learning curve.
