Earl and Tiger were always extremely close, not only on the professional side but also personally. Earl was like a hero to Tiger, a mentor and a father at the same time. When Earl passed away in May of 2006, Tiger was crushed and heartbroken and all the euphoria he was in after winning the Masters and Open Championship in 2005, quickly turned into great sadness. Woods soon got back on his feet and by the end of the season he had broken the tour records.
