[post_page_title]Calicos in pop culture [/post_page_title]
Calico’s popularity is hardly new, and they’ve been part of our popular culture for a long time. In the late 19th century writer Eugene Field published a poem for children titled, The Duel, featured a calico cat.
It later inspired a song and children’s book called, The Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat. In Japan, the beckoning cat statues, also called Maneki Neko or fortune cats, that you often see in shop windows waving to you were originally based on the calico cat as well. Today these figurines have become extremely popular world wide.
