Before Prince Charles married Diana – before he even met Diana – he had his eye on Camilla Shand. They dated briefly, but separated and went their own way, with Camilla marrying another man. Charles then met Diana, and married her in a 1981 ceremony watched by 750 million people (and attended by Camilla and her then-husband).
Just a few years into the marriage, however, he reportedly rekindled his romance with Camilla. Diana was painfully aware, as she quipped in a very controversial interview that, “There were three of us in this marriage, it was getting a bit crowded.”
