Of course, David knew that his actions were hurting his co-star, and he knew just how she felt about the fact that he was romancing many women in plain view. However, he didn’t want to stop living his life for the sake of a woman he had shown no romantic interest in.
He eventually decided that he had to be insensitive to her feelings, otherwise she wouldn’t know that their potential relationship would never happen. He needed her to get the message, and it seemed like the only way to do so.
