If soldiers didn’t have enough to battle with knowing that enemy forces were out there, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike, the US troops also had to deal with extreme exhaustion and dehydration.
It was one of the main causes of loss of US life. Unlike passing away by a sudden injury, which is the more obvious way to go during a war, this would be a more subtle and drawn out process which some may say is even more painful.
