Of course, the United States has always been a country where the individual was placed above everything else, which is why the most crazy or unusual names can often be found there. In other Western countries, however, that isn’t the case.
Many countries in Europe place the community above the individual, and as such have lists of “acceptable names” for parents to choose from. If a parent from Denmark, for example, wishes to name their child something not on the list, they have to get special approval from the government.
