The syndrome occurs when there is a fluid discrepancy between the two babies. In normal twin babies, the fluids and nutrients in the embryonic sac are distributed equally. This is not the case for twins with Twin-Twin Transfusion Syndrome, as one twin receives more nutrients, while the other becomes weaker by the day.
