Most of us eat grapes on a regular basis, but the people of Spain put their grapes to even better use on New Year’s Eve. As the clock strikes 12, they eat a single grape on every single bell toll.
Ultimately they end up eating 12 grapes in the course of a minute, and it’s believed that this bestows good luck upon them for the next 12 months. If they do not take part in this superstition, it’s believed that they will suffer the worst luck imaginable. In their eyes, it’s better not to risk it.
