Judging by what Johnson has said, the marriage happened in the spur of the moment. He’d only been with Wallace the night before when Griffith called up and professed her love for him. Even though it was early in the morning, Don was over the moon with her admission and told her exactly the same thing.
Realizing they were meant to be together, they apparently flew to Vegas and tied the knot immediately. However, within a few months, their love fizzled out, and Don found himself with his third divorce.
