According to the author, she focused on the female part when answering the question, because she knew she was planning to have Bella pregnant at some point. She answered the question saying female vampires cannot get pregnant, because their bodies can no longer change.
They don’t have a menstrual cycle, nor do their bodies expand to fit a growing baby. This is the reason Rosalie wishes she were human, and advocates for Bella to stay human even though she wishes to become a vampire.
