The book, Forrest Gump, sold a mere 30,000 copies when it was first published in 1986. However, when the film came out in 1994 fans of the film flocked to bookstores to purchase the book for themselves.
By the end of 1995, the book sold over 1.6 million copies. Author Winston Groom then published a sequel to the book, titled Gump & Co., in 1995 to capitalize on the success of his first story. There is also a cookbook called The Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Cookbook that has a foreword written by Winston.
