At a time when women were found in the kitchens and not the hospitals, Dr. Elizabeth Garrett Anderson was the one to pave the way for women in medicine. Anderson was the first English woman to qualify to become a doctor. It was through her courage of conviction that she paved the way and pushed other women to follow their own path towards becoming nurses and physicians. In 1872, Anderson founded the New Hospital for Women in London.
