Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller was the first African-American psychiatrist in the United States. His field of research was in that of Alzheimer’s disease. His research supported the notion that dementia was caused by a disease rather than plain old age. His published work brought light to the field and forever changed the course of the research thereafter.
