There was a full-on bidding war for the rights of Crazy Rich Asians. Netflix offered Kwan and the production team a three-picture deal that was worth a lot of money. However, Kwan decided to turn it down as he wanted the film to have a theater release and not a television one. He knew what he had in his hands. The film rights ended up going to Warner Brothers, and the rest is history. They did an incredible job, that’s for sure.
