Just one year before the Marvel Cinematic Universe was officially kicked off with the first Iron Man movie, Sony Pictures released Ghost Rider. Centering around the aptly-named Johnny Blaze, this motorcycle stuntman sells his soul to the devil to save his adopted father.
He later becomes the literal Spirit of Vengeance, exacting punishment on evildoers. Today it seems like the biggest punishment was on the audience, however. Sure, a man with a flaming skull for a head is a hard thing to pull off, but he’s the main character! You could’ve tried to do better than this, Sony.
