Maybe people have been confusing him with the Mr. Peanut peanut mascot since he also wears a top hat and has a cane. But they are not the same person, and either way, there are too many people who cannot conceptualize that the Monopoly man does not have a monocle. They grew up picturing him as such and have ingrained this into their memories.
