[post_page_title]Veda Pierce | Ann Blyth[/post_page_title]
Veda Pierce is one of the worst offenders on this list. A selfish and cruel daughter to her mother Mildred – played by screen legend Joan Crawford – Veda is constantly grasping for a lifestyle of glitz and glamor, and constantly harangues her mother for not being able to provide it.
It’s only over the course of the full film that we come to realize just how mean and amoral Veda is, as she plots to ruin her mother and cements her place as perhaps the worst daughter in all of fiction.

Ann Blyth did such a good job of bringing Veda’s cruelty and malice to life that she received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. For the next few years, Blyth appeared in several films, including:
‘The Great Caruso’, ‘The Student Prince’, and ‘The Helen Morgan Story’, all of which were hits. Later in life she worked on stage and in television, appearing in popular shows like ‘Burke’s Law’, ‘Quincey M.E.’, and ‘Murder She Wrote’, before officially retiring in 1985.
