The first woman who ever thought that lumber workers could use a circular saw in a saw mill instead of the inefficient and traditional saw pits that were used by the two-man sawyers was a weaver named Tabitha Babbitt. Babbitt created the first prototype in 1813, and while her Shaker’s community didn’t see eye to eye with her will to make it patent, they did use her revolutionary invention to the fullest.
