Matlin won an Oscar for Best Actress in 1986 for her unforgettable performance in ‘Children of a Lesser God’ where she played the lead role in the 1986 film. In fact, Marlee Matlin is the first and only deaf talent to ever win an Academy Award. Matlin has been deaf since she was a baby, however that didn’t stop her from pursuing her dream of becoming an actress and these days she is a regular on the hit show, Switched at Birth, a show which one of its main storylines revolves around deafness.
