The Akita hunting dog originates from the mountains of the northern regions of Japan. These dogs are very large, weighing usually around 70-130 pounds. Their average lifespan is 11-15 years. The Akita breed is known to be alert and receptive. They are also known to be very friendly and faithful, despite the fact that they can look quite intimidating and proud. They have a thick coat of fur due to the cold climate they were bred in.
