Award ceremonies have been going on for decades now, so it’s foolish to think these mistakes are only a recent thing. There have been many awkward moments going back years, with the 1974 Academy Awards host to one of them.
It happened while David Niven was about to welcome Elizabeth Taylor to the stage, and a man appeared on the stage without clothes on. The sight caught viewers by surprise, but Niven poked fun at the embarrassing moment by musing over the stranger’s “shortcomings.” That man never missed a beat.
