Aretha Franklin, a singer, songwriter, and musician, started her career through gospel singing at her father’s church at a young age. She then signed with Columbia Records in 1960, but only truly gained her fame in 1967 after signing with Atlantic Records with her song ‘Respect’ and ‘A Natural Woman.’
Franklin kicked off the ’80s by appearing in a small but unforgettable role in The Blues Brothers, and continued releasing new music all throughout the decade – and beyond. She passed away in 2018, aged 76.
