While we’ve yet to travel back or forwards in time ourselves, the idea of time travel does excite most of us. After all, who wouldn’t want to go back and change that embarrassing outfit we wore to our tenth birthday party? Why wouldn’t you go back and live with the ancient Egyptians? The idea of time travel fills us with so many possibilities – but could it really happen? Over the past few centuries, scientists and historians alike have done everything they could possibly do to prove that time travel exists. Phrases such as quantum mechanics, wormholes, general relativity, and the grandfather paradox have been thrown around, but there is still no solid proof as to whether time machines and time travel could ever happen. At least, until now. Thanks to a new video that has taken the world by storm, one man claims to be a time traveler from nearly 4,000 years in the future. But why should we believe him? Well, this man has a photograph that supposedly proves his mysterious tale…
An incredible tale
Over the course of your lifetime, you’ve probably heard a few incredible tales. It might have been a story that stuck with you because of its weird and wonderful nature, it may have been a news report that left you, and others stumped, or you might have even experienced an unexplainable event yourself. When we hear these tales, we have no idea what to think. Do we believe what we are hearing without seeing any evidence? Do we dismiss it all as fiction? Well, one man made it his mission to prove that he really was a time-traveler, and despite the disbelief from people across the world, he was ready to fight his case. After all, he had evidence…
Traveling in time
Although most people will say that they have never traveled in time, that doesn’t mean that they have never surrounded themselves with the concept. In fact, the idea of time travel has been around for centuries, and is now a part of our everyday lives! Throughout history, writers, politicians, and average Joe’s have put forward the idea that it is possible to travel backward or forwards in time. Famous stories that deal with the idea of time travel and time travelers can be traced back as far as the 18th Century, and more and more people have come to believe that it is really possible to do so. But is there any truth to it?
Surrounded by time
Deciding whether we think time travel is real or not normally stems from our interaction with popular culture, because time travel is all the rage in Hollywood. Over the past few decades, we have been able to sit down on the couch and watch countless movies that deal with the idea of time travel. Of course, one of the most famous of the lot is the sci-fi franchise, Back to the Future. As Marty McFly and Doc Brown jumped in their DeLorean to take a trip to the future, we believed we could too.
A trip in the TARDIS
However, Marty and Doc weren’t the only ones to spark our interest in time travel. Even if you’re not a fan of British television, there’s a high chance that you have heard of the sci-fi television series, Doctor Who. Following the elusive ‘Doctor,’ this show takes viewers back and forward in time to alien planets full of extraterrestrials and weird creatures. Although this show was a little more extravagant than Back to the Future, it didn’t curb our enthusiasm for time travel, and we’ve since become a society obsessed with this concept.
The tale of Epimenides
But time travel stories are actually much older, with the first literary mention of time travel coming in the 3rd century CE, when historian Diogenes Laërtius recounted a tale about Epimenides, a sheepherder said to have fallen asleep in a cave in Crete, only to wake up 57 years later and discover almost everyone he knew was gone. Going back to his father’s farm, he found it owned by someone else, with people he didn’t know living in his family’s home. Finally, he met his younger brother, who was now an old man.
Christmas time travel?
Another very early example of time travel – even if you never thought of it as such – can be found in Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol from 1843, the tale of miser Ebenezer Scrooge, who’s unpleasant to everyone he meets. In an attempt to show him the error of his ways, he is visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past, Ghost of Christmas Present, and Ghost of Christmas Future. Far from a science fiction story, Dickens has the ghosts merely show Scrooge scenes from both the past and the future.
Time travel really takes off
The concept of time travel really exploded with the release of H. G. Wells’ The Time Machine, published in 1895. It wasn’t his first story about time travel, but proved to be the most enduringly popular. Wells actually first coined the phrase “time machine.” In the book, a time traveler whose name is never revealed recounts to his fascinated Victorian dinner guests his adventures in traveling to the year 802,701 CE and to 30 million more years in the future. The traveler then takes another voyage, but never returns.
Proof is in the pudding
Over the years, many photos and videos have been brought to our attention that supposedly prove that time travel exists. In the 1940s, hordes of people made their way to the South Fork Bridge in Gold Bridge, Canada to celebrate the reopening of the bridge. To mark the occasion, a photographer took photographs of the crowd – including this one. However, as soon as this photo became public, time traveling were quick to spot the man wearing sunglasses who is seemingly wearing modern clothes. In their eyes, there was only one answer. He was a time traveler.
On my cell phone
Yet, this isn’t the only photo that has caused a ruckus in the past. In 1938, a video was released of a group of women walking down the street. While their dress and their hairstyles were synonymous with the times, there was one woman that stood out from the lot. If you look closely, you may see the woman holding her hand up to her ear, and that this something looks incredibly similar to a cell phone. Considering cell phones didn’t exist in 1938, we have to wonder where she came from…
Chaplin’s time traveler
A noted example of possible time travel uncovered just recently presented footage of a woman attending the 1928 premiere of Charlie Chaplin’s film The Circus. The video, taken outside Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, showed an elderly woman holding a thin, black object that looks suspiciously like a cell phone to her ear she walks. The YouTube video that presented the footage instantly went viral, receiving millions of views, and was covered by television news programs.
An Iranian time tourist
Five years ago, a 27-year-old Iranian scientist claimed he had invented a sort of time machine. Specifically, he claimed that while the machine couldn’t take whoever uses it into the future, it could bring the future to them. His machine allegedly used a complex series of algorithms to predict the future of anyone who touches it up to a span five to eight years. The claim receive such widespread attention that Iran’s deputy minister of science, research and technology officially denied it.
What science says
Although we have always speculated about our ability to travel through time, have you ever wondered what scientists think? It seems as though they aren’t convinced. While they don’t deny that the practice of time travel could be possible in theoretical terms, they have never seen any physical evidence to suggest it could happen. After all, if time travel really was possible, why aren’t we overrun with travel tourists in the present day? Well, as well as having photographic proof, one man also has the answer to this question.
So where are all the time travelers?
If time travel is really possible, why haven’t we ever encountered visitors from the future? Scientists offer up several possibilities. First, experts say that just because no time travelers seem to be around, it doesn’t mean that time travel itself isn’t possible – it may just have never been developed, or has been used very cautiously. Famous scientist Carl Sagan, for instance, suggested that time travelers may indeed be among us, but they have disguised themselves too well for us to notice.
The grandfather paradox
Another hypothetical obstacle with time travel is the grandfather paradox, which says that a time traveler going backwards into the past may kill their own grandfather, even accidentally. Naturally, if the time traveler’s grandfather was killed, then their father or mother would never be born – leading to they themselves never being born. But if they were never born, it continues, how could they have existed to travel through time and kill their grandfather in the first place? The paradox has been expanded to include any action that alters the past.
Time – the fourth dimension
Despite the difficulties in wrapping our heads around time travel, many scientists nevertheless regard it as the fourth dimension. The three traditional dimensions are all physical – being length, width and depth. Time, however, is sometimes said to be a fourth, non-physical dimension that both people and objects can travel through, even if only in a linear manner, meaning from the present to the future at our normal rate. The idea isn’t new – Italian mathematician Joseph-Louis Lagrange first presented such a claim in 1788. We know, girl, it’s giving us a headache, too.
Working nine to five
Despite time possibly being the fourth dimension, some claim it’s essentially a human invention. Think about it: you can see the physical length of something, but how do you measure time? We have seconds, hours, and days, of course, but those are manmade constructs. Does your dog know when ten minutes have passed? Interestingly, the concept of time was first developed with a direct link to work, with laborers being paid by the day. After the Industrial Revolution, which made it easier to travel across time zones, they began to be paid by the hour.
Black holes and time travel
An interesting time travel lead no one has been able to follow up on as yet is black holes, or specifically what lies through them. Black holes are regions with a gravitational pull so strong that nothing – not even light – can escape. Somewhere inside every black hole is its singularity, or a point in which its gravitational field becomes infinite. Inside such a point, the laws of spacetime – the three physical dimensions plus time – no longer apply, making it theoretically possible to somehow travel through time.
A paranormal channel
However, to truly understand this story we need to learn a little about the concept, and where it first came to light. Because of this, we need to take a little trip over to YouTube and check out the popular channel called ApexTV. Known to some as one of the largest “voices of paranormal” on the social media network, this channel deals with everything society apparently chooses to ignore. They talk about ghosts, aliens, and the ability to time travel. This is where our man comes into play.
A popular video
On January 2, 2018, ApexTV added a new video to their channel – but they had no idea just how popular it would be. This video supposedly showcased a man who had traveled back in time from the year 6,000 CE and was ready to share his story with the rest of the world. At the time of writing, the video has garnered more than 5 million views and over 15,000 comments. In fact, it’s safe to say that this video has become a viral sensation and will remain so over the course of history.
According to the video, ApexTV were contacted by an anonymous man who claimed to have come from the future, so they decided to meet him. They tied up in an unknown location, and the man’s face was blurred out so viewers could not see who he really was. Nevertheless, his dialogue was strong and confident, and he had no problems explaining his story to everyone. He started by saying that he understands if people don’t believe him, but he hopes that with his photograph, he can change their minds.
A top-secret program
So, where did he come from? According to the supposed time traveler, he was originally alive during the 1990s. Unbeknown to us, time travel has been readily available for decades and has been used within top-secret programs run by the government and elite task forces. In his case, he was chosen as part of a top-secret government program that aimed to take people from the ‘90s to various different points in the past and future. He decided to come back to 2018 to share his experience with the rest of the world.
Life in 6,000 CE
As he continued to tell his story, the man confessed that he was specifically chosen to travel into the future and experience life in 6,000 CE – nearly 4,000 years from now. During this mission, he was chosen to observe what life was like for those who lived in the future, what had changed, and whether the human race was thriving or barely surviving. What he noted was that the world had changed dramatically. Earth was no longer the Earth we know and love and was virtually unrecognizable from the past.
One of the biggest changes between the current day and the year 6,000 CE is the fact that time travel is now considered a form of tourism. Everyone has the ability to take themselves back or forward in time and experience some of the greatest moments of all time. People can take themselves back to ancient Egypt, they can experience Martin Luther King’s iconic speech, and they can take themselves back to the moment of their choice. The best bit? This time travel renders people invisible so that they won’t be seen.
An almighty cure
However, the advancements don’t stop there. Thanks to the technology and the development of modern medicine, disease is not a concept known by those in 6,000 CE. The time traveler noted that the cure for cancer was found in the year 3,000 CE and that the people of the future are fit and healthy without a care in the world. As if that wasn’t enough, the future government will not be run by human beings like the world today but instead run by AI computers which will make decisions based on facts that are devoid of emotion.
Because of the inclusion of Artificial Intelligence and computer technology, the lives of those living in 6,000 CE are much different to the ones we lead today. Rather than passing away when our time comes, those in the future are effectively able to live forever. When the physical body comes to a natural end, their consciousness and their memories are uploaded to a computer. However, if the place gets too overcrowded, there is also the ability to shrink both people and places to accommodate for the extra bodies.
Although the unidentified man was happy to divulge all of this information about his experiences in the future, he was also conscious of the fact that people in the past have fed the public lies about their ability to time travel. He wanted to ensure that those who watched the video knew that he was telling the truth, and he knew that he had to provide some solid proof to back up his claims. Luckily, that’s exactly what he had in his pocket. It was at this moment that the man pulled out a photograph…
As he mentioned the life-changing photograph, the man held it up to the camera for the whole world to see. Like his own story, the photograph was a little hazy in places, and it was difficult to work out what he was showing the public. He then started to explain more about the photograph and explained that the picture showcased a cityscape of life in 6,000 CE. He knew that the picture wasn’t as clear as some would want it to be, but he had an answer for that.
In short, the photograph the man was using as proof of his time traveling experience was completely distorted. Although he was aware that this would probably put some people off, he had an explanation. He noted that during the process of time travel, it’s not only time itself that gets distorted. When time travelers take objects and photos through time, they also get distorted. While this photograph was clear in the future, it became increasingly distorted as he traveled back in time to tell his story in 2018.
A bright future
With his story and his alleged proof of time travel, it should come as no surprise to learn that the video has been incredibly popular among YouTube users and those who stumble upon his tale. With hundreds of thousands of comments to its name, people from across the world have had their say on the matter. There are many people who believe the man and believe that time travel really is possible, and they are happy to know that there is a bright future ahead of us in the present day. Yet, there are others who aren’t as convinced.
Still not convinced
With countless videos on the ApexTV YouTube channel that feature men and women spouting the same story, there are also those who are still convinced with stories of time travel. They believe that the distorted photograph is not enough evidence to change their mind, and their views will remain the same until they can see evidence of real merit. Because of this, the reaction to this man who claims to be from the future has been a mixed bag – but what do you think? Do you think this man really is from the future?
