We hate to be blunt, but… Work sucks. Yep, if we didn’t have to work, we totally wouldn’t. We would buy a one-way ticket outta here and go and live on the moon or something, where work emails don’t exist, Barbara from accounts doesn’t try to get the lowdown on our love life every single day, and we don’t have to commute three hours to and from the office every single day. However, life isn’t a dream world, and we have to enjoy all of the free time we have. Sometimes it’s difficult to shut off even after we’ve left the office and gone home for the day. So, how can you REALLY relax at the end of the day?

Listen to your favorite music

One of the greatest ways to wind down at the end of the day is to listen to music. It may be that you shove in your headphones on the train home from work, you may blast music from your speakers while making dinner, or you might put on soothing music just before you go to bed. Either way, this will totally work. It’s completely down to you what kind of music you want to listen, as you need to find something that works for you and releases all of the stress from your day. This may be classical tunes, or it might be thrash metal. The world of music is your oyster.

Tips for relaxing at the end of the day

Get your body moving

If you find yourself getting stressed at work, you may find yourself suffering from joint pain, swelling, or even a bad back. This is because your body reacts to stress by tightening itself, which can often be uncomfortable. If you want to feel less stressed and relaxed at the end of the day, it’s important to get your body moving. We get it, you just want to sit down and eat ice cream after – and you can totally do that, but you might want to do a little bit of exercise beforehand. This could be 15 minutes of yoga, or it could even be walking home from work rather than catching the bus. Any form of movement will loosen your body and release the tension.

Give yourself some ‘me’ time

Life as a whole can be pretty darn stressful. Some people finish a stressful job to get home to their family and children who all require something from you – and you really don’t get a second to relax or unwind at the end of the day. However, it’s important to give yourself time to yourself. This could be something as simple as having a bath without the kids barging in, or it could be keeping the light on for an extra 20 minutes to finish off your book before bed. By giving yourself time to focus on you and enjoy the activities you love, it should help you relax.

Try to power down

We’ve known for a while now that watching television before bed and scrolling through our phones completely disrupts our circadian rhythms, but there are some people who utilize their selective hearing with this fact, and completely ignore it. If you are this person and you still find it hard to relax after a long day, we’ve probably found your answer. These scientists are pretty clever, you know, and they know what they’re talking about. By powering down for just one hour before you go to bed, you will be able to relax more and enter into a blissful slumber that will leave you ready for the next day. You could even use this time to have your ‘me’ time!
Are you struggling to relax at the end of the day? Well, try out these tips and see whether they can help you get back into the swing of things.
