As we grow up, we learn that good friends are worth their weight in gold and are much harder to come by than we think. Friends who will be there for you when times are tough, make you laugh when you’re feeling down and celebrate with you when things are going great. When you find a best friend like this, you need to hold them tight! Here are some important promises that you should both make and keep forever.
I promise to always tell you the truth
It’s not always easy, to be honest with someone you love, but that’s why it is so important. If you think she is making a mistake with a boyfriend, the dress she’s wearing isn’t flattering her, or you think they’re being difficult, a best friend should be able to tell them that.
I promise that we will never go to sleep mad at each other
There is nothing worse than arguing with your favorite person. Don’t let yourselves go to sleep on an argument, stay awake while you work it out and you will both sleep much sounder.
I promise to never say anything behind your back
Unless you would say it to their face, don’t say anything behind your bestie’s back. You should be able, to be honest with them and be able to say anything to them, so there is no need to do this.
I promise never to let a relationship come between us
Of course when you fall in love you want to spend a lot of time with that person, and that’s okay, but never let your relationships come between you and your best friend. If he or she is the one, they will understand and respect the importance of your friendship.
I promise to always pick up the pieces
At some point, you are both going to get your hearts broken. Makes sure you are there for one another, in whatever way they need. Perhaps they want to stay up all night crying and talking, or they need distracting with a party. Whatever they need, you will be there for them to help ease the pain of a breakup.
I promise to help you reach your goals
True BFFs will encourage each other to reach their goals and help them get to where they want to be. Whether that is a pep talk, tough love or practical steps, you can rely on your bestie to help you get there.
I promise to be your voice of reason
There will be times when your best friend needs to make a big decision, perhaps about a job, a relationship or a move. It is your job to help them see the pros and cons and make the right decision for them – despite what you might want them to do.
Being a good best friend requires making and keeping all of these promises. The more you give, the more you get, and you will have a best friend for life.
