One of the methods Hagar used in order to gain the trust of this protective mother dog was to lay a leash on the ground in order to let the dog sniff it and figure out what it was. He then waited for the right moment, and gently put the leash around the frightened and scared mother. At this point, it was clear that the dog trusted him, so he and his team began to take the puppies out of the den one by one.
