There’s nothing we love more than following the lives of our favorite celebrities. We just can’t get enough of keeping up to date on their career, their personal lives and any new updates in the celebrity stratosphere – and it’s totally not stalker-ish (we promise). The life of celebrities just makes us ridiculously happy, and we love to see how the other half live (because there’s a very small chance we’ll ever get to live like that). However, there is something we love more than one celebrity…and that’s a celebrity couple. Celebrity couples are very few and far between because the constant bombardment and press and daily cheating rumors can be a strain on their relationships. Nevertheless, one couple have managed to pull through every shoved in their way, and have become the ultimate power couple. Of course, we’re talking about Jay Z and Beyoncé.
1997 – 2000
During the late ‘90s and the early ‘00s, Beyoncé and Jay Z were dominating the charts but had never been associated with each other – until rumors of their relationship started to appear in October 2002. Although they had crossed paths a couple of times before (as you do), the pair officially met sometime between 1997 and 2000, although the exact year is not known. However, as the pair continued to slay the world with their incredible music, they started to mix in the same circles. In 2000, Queen Bey appeared alongside Amil to produce the hit song, ‘I Got That.’ Of course, Jay-Z experts will know that Amil was the protegee of the rapper, and had been signed to Jay-Z’s record label.
2001-2003
Eeeek, we can feel the love blossoming beneath our fingertips! In November 2001, Beyoncé and Jay-Z took a trip to the Vanity Fair offices to take part in their iconic music issue. The pair stood alongside the likes of Gwen Stefani, David Bowie, and other musical legends. In an interview with the magazine a decade after this photo shoot, Jay-Z confirmed that the couple were starting to ‘hang out’ at this point, and were trying to date each other. Considering the pair had been ‘trying’ to date each other since November 2001, the couple did a bloomin’ good job of keeping it under wraps. However, their secrets were scuppered in 2002 when Beyoncé and Jay-Z teamed up to create their iconic song ‘Bonnie & Clyde.’ Their passionate music video and their real-life closeness sparked some pretty believable rumors. Of course, they rejected everything – but paparazzi shots throughout 2002 and 2003 show the pair rarely leaving each other’s side. They were busted.
2004 – 2006
The tabloids had an absolute field day during the mid-’00s. Despite the growing evidence of their relationship, Beyoncé and Jay-Z never confirmed that they were officially dating – and we were all getting pretty restless. The pair would often reference each other in their songs, where they would claim that they had the ‘hottest chick going’ or that Beyoncé loved a Sagittarius (Jay-Z is a Sagittarius), but otherwise there was no real proof. A spanner was thrown into the works in 2005 when Jay-Z was rumored to be dating Rihanna. Of course, we were all up in arms. How could he do that to Beyoncé? Who even was Rihanna? What the heck was going on?
2006
The Beyoncé/Jay-Z rumors took another unexpected turn in January 2006, when it was reported the pair/couple/whatever the heck they were, were engaged. However, Beyoncé later denied the claims and continued to work on her plans for world domination (and she definitely succeeded). As the months drove by, the pair continued to write about each other in their songs – some were pretty positive, some were pretty negative. The questions were endless.
2006 – today
Yep, the day finally happened. Before they had even confirmed they were dating, the power couple had gone off to secretly get hitched. Naturally, the world went wild – because we had absolutely no clue it was happening. Thus, they were officially husband and wife, and the ultimate power couple. After a few years of taking over the world with their incredible music, their beautiful relationship and their willingness to be real and help those in need, Beyoncé made a surprise announcement. During an MTV Video Music Award performance, Beyoncé announced that she and Jay-Z were expecting a baby! The couple welcomed Blue Ivy Carter into the world on January 7, 2012.
Since the birth of Blue Ivy, Beyoncé and Jay-Z have continued to lead the way in the realm of power couples. They have since battled cheating rumors, sibling rivalry and have even welcomed two new twins into their lives! Nevertheless, they’re still rocking it.
