Do you remember your dreams? Even if you don’t remember where you went or what you did in dreamland when you wake up, that doesn’t mean that you don’t go there at all. In fact, everyone dreams, whether they are aware of it or not. There are many people in the world who can wake up and recall extremely vividly what occurred when they were asleep, but there are others who are none the wiser. This can often make you feel as though you are missing out on something, so how do you remember your dreams? Well, here are a few tips to take note of.
Keep a dream journal
Perhaps one of the easiest ways to remember your dreams is to write them down in a dream journal. Although you might not remember your dreams in the middle of the day when you have a good ol’ gossip with your co-workers, you’ll probably know exactly what went down in dreamland as soon as you wake up. This might be first thing in the morning, or it may even be during the night when one of your sleep cycles has finished. By keeping a journal by your bed, you can write down a few notes as soon as you are able to. This means you can look back and marvel at where you went in sleep.
Try to sleep well
It may seem counterintuitive, but sleeping more can actually help you remember your dreams. According to sleep experts, most of us dream the most during the first 4 to 6 hours of our sleeping routines. These dreams normally focus on things that we have done during the day because this is when our brain dissects our memories and deals with the repair of our body. Once this part of our sleeping pattern is in full swing, we then move into REM sleep. This aspect of our sleep schedule can help us have longer and more interesting dreams that we are more likely to remember.
Focus on affirmations
Most of the time, our brains are so full of information that we can often feel overloaded. This means that our dreams often fall into the nooks and crannies of our brain without us being able to remember them. Other thoughts blur these dreams and being able to recall anything becomes extremely difficult. However, if you focus on affirmations and tell yourself that you can remember your dreams, there’s a high chance that you will be able to. One of the best ways to do this is to write a note by the side of your bed that reads something like, “I can remember my dreams.”
Take your vitamins
What you might not realize is that the state of our bodies can also affect our ability to recollect our dreams. In fact, eating certain foods that are high in the likes of melatonin, vitamin B6, and other minerals can help us sleep better and recall our dreams. Although there are countless foods out there that will do that, some of the best and most delicious foods include bananas, oatmeal, cherries, and almonds. It’s also important to make a note of foods that will affect your ability to recollect your dreams. These include intoxicating substances and caffeine.
If you don’t remember your dreams, then it might be an idea to look at how you can change your habits. By doing this, you should be able to understand where you go and what happens in Dreamland.
