How focused would you say you are? Extremely focused? Fairly focused? Struggling to focus? Well, when Microsoft conducted a study in 2015, they found that the average human being very nearly has the same attention span of a goldfish. In fact, our attention span is eight seconds less than a goldfish! This has become even worse over the years, as our society moves along with the technological revolution. With apps and gadgets galore, our focus is worse than ever. If you’re looking to improve that, here are ways you can do it.

Find your workspace

When you’re getting ready to settle down and work, where are you setting up? If you’re in an office environment, having a desk and your own space is of paramount importance. However, if you’re working from home, it can be difficult to find the right spot. Instead of working from your bed or the couch, try and find a table or upright chair where you can be comfortable but stay professional. If this doesn’t work for you, why not give your local coffee shop a try? The aim of the game is to eliminate as many distractions as possible.

Make a to-do list

Your focus can often feel strained when you know that you have so many things to do. You might feel overwhelmed, you might feel as though you want to just quit while you’re ahead, and you might not even know where to start. This is why a to-do list can help you focus. You can get everything from out of your head and onto a piece of paper, and then you can prioritize what needs to be done and in what order. Just think of the satisfaction you’ll have when you can tick them off your list.

Listen to music

While there are some people who need complete silence to truly focus, a large portion of the population work better when they are listening to music. Although listening to this music on a speaker does have the same effect, many studies have found that headphones are even more effective. That’s because this music allows you to focus solely on yourself. You don’t have others around you humming along, and you can’t hear any background news. Yet, you have to make sure that it’s music you enjoy.

Take a break every so often

It’s a common misconception that working solidly without any breaks gets your work done quicker. When you work without breaks you lose focus and you get distracted easier. Because of this, you need to make sure that you take breaks every so often. Experts suggest that you should take a short five-minute break every 50 minutes to perform better. You can make yourself a coffee, go to the restroom, or just have a little wander around before getting back to the grind.
If you struggle to keep your focus, give these few tips a go. We guarantee they will help you feel more focused.
