Foods that fight colds when your body is struggling to make it through flu season

Flu season is still very much upon us, and it seems with every passing week there is someone we know struck down with the flu. If you haven’t yet fallen foul of this, you need to take steps to try to prevent yourself getting poorly. Now, some people already have good immune systems, in which case, plenty of rest, taking vitamins, and making sure you have three meals a day is the best way of keeping healthier.

However, if you’re someone with a poor immune system, you have to understand that your body might need a bit of a helping hand. This means that you need to make sure you are looking after yourself, boosting your immune system, and making sure you eat the right sort of foods. These are some of the best foods to eat that will help you to make it through flu season relatively unscathed!

Good news for all you garlic lovers (and bad new for vampires) garlic is one of the best foods to eat if you want to battle cold and flu. It is an incredibly powerful antibiotic agent and has even been compared to penicillin in the past. Of course, that’s not to say garlic is a substitute for actual prescribed medication, but it is almost certainly a must for giving your body the pick-me-up it needs.

Oranges are one of the best foods ever, as there are so many wonderful things to enjoy about them. They are packed full of vitamin C, which is great for your skin and bone health, and they are just perfect for boosting your immune system. Try snacking on these bad boys over the course of the day, and try to get as many into your diet as you can.

Okay, so it’s not food, but it is the most important thing we can consume. You’re definitely not drinking enough water, so you have to make sure you increase your water intake as much as possible. That means trying to ensure you drink 2-3 liters of water per day; it’s the perfect antioxidant and will help flush your body and give you valuable nutrients. Hydration is crucial when you’re trying to fight against the risk of cold and flu.

Not only is broccoli hella underrated as a vegetable, but it’s also insanely good for you as well. We bet you weren’t aware that there is more vitamin C in a serving of broccoli than there is in an entire orange! Whenever you have vegetables with your dinner, try to make sure you double up on the broccoli – make it an integral part of your diet. And, to stop things getting dull, you could always saute it, or mix it with other bits and pieces.

These are just a few of the excellent things you should be consuming during flu season, to help your body get stronger. Vitamin C is so important for helping boost immunity levels, and for making sure your body is in the best position to be fighting germs. Load up on these foods, and really notice the difference!
