Elizabeth’s ordeal resonated deeply with parents all over the nation. It was her experience that lead to then-president George W. Bush to sign the Protect Act of 2003. This Act made the ramifications of abduction, exploitation and inappropriate behavior of children, much graver. Since Elizabeth’s ordeal, many child laws have been put into place and the Amber alert system implemented.
